Communication with the Friend of the Court office
Please contact the Friend of the Court in writing so that complete and
accurate information can be recorded in your case file. Requests for enforcement
of child support, parenting time and medical support must be
in writing.
You must provide the Friend of the Court with written
notice of any changes of: addresses, names, sources of income of either
party, medical insurance for the child(ren), telephone(s) numbers, marital
status of minor child, legal guardianships/adoptions, and physical custody
of your child.
Also notify the Friend of the Court of the death of a party or child,
the termination of parental rights, the reconciliation of the parties,
a child's graduation date, and any other court involvement of your child.
Access to Friend of the Court Records
The records maintained by the Friend of the Court are exempt from the
Freedom of Information Act; therefore they are not open to the general
public. Michigan Court Rules grant certain individuals including the parties
and attorneys of record access to non-confidential Friend of the Court
records for review and copying. Copies of accessible records cost $1.00
per page.
